Biography

In Irish, Faoileán means seabird or gull; one who circles or spins; one who cries; wild one.

This folk trio manned by Nathan Bishop, Connor Brogan, and Rob Helsel is based out of Philadelphia and remains active in the community through live appearances that emphasize collaboration and engaged listening.

From executing tender verses of five-hundred-year-old ballads, to rending the fabric of acoustic music with intensity, Faoileán challenges and experiments with the limits of modern Irish folk music with original and traditional songs alike.

Faoileán Live

A Faoileán live experience is individual and engaging. Utilizing their distinct strength in arrangement, the band invites audiences to engage with storied lyrics and melodies of traditional tunes while at once subverting expectations with dynamic peaks and valleys, creating an atmosphere of high-impact, wild sensibility.

Faoileán has performed extensively in the Philadelphia area for the last four years, and regularly travels  to Baltimore, New York City, and Vermont. They frequently collaborate with actors and dancers, from live improvisation to live scoring old maritime plays in playhouses and historic vessels.

Always professional and upbeat, their performance never disappoints. They form immediate connections with the crowd. It is impossible not to be lured in by their amazing musicianship and high-energy performance.”
